A healthy diet that reduces sugar levels 2 December 2019

A diet that reduces sugar levels often has serious limitations in some foods. This is not a diet for everyone, but strict adherence to it can often improve the results of tests and the health status of people at risk of diabetes or insulin resistance. So if you or one of your loved ones has had any of these conditions, you may be at risk. Therefore, it is worth going to a dietitian in order to have a balanced diet lowering blood sugar levels.

Sugar reducing diet - main assumptions

The concentration of glucose in the blood determines not only the well-being, but also the general condition of the body. Blood glucose levels measured on an empty stomach should be approximately 100 mg/dL. Two hours after the administration of glucose, it should increase to 130 - 140 mg/dl. If there is a fairly large deviation from any of the limits, it is advisable to check your sugar levels, and also to perform an examination and observation of your body for insulin resistance.

The sugar lowering diet is designed to reduce the carbohydrates that are commonly found in bread, potatoes, pasta and many other everyday foods. When the body works optimally, carbohydrates are to supply the muscles with energy and also penetrate into the liver and other organs. Unfortunately, that's not always the case.

For people suffering from hyperglycaemia or any of the previously mentioned ailments, a diet rich in so-called good fats is recommended. They are characterized by slow absorption, so they do not cause too much and sudden release of glucose.

Sugar-reducing foods

In a sugar-lowering diet, many meals are made from vegetables - not just seasonal ones. It is also assumed that the drinking of vegetable juices, rich in fibre, significantly facilitates digestion and at the same time lengthens the digestion of sugars. Blood glucose levels increase slowly to prevent hyperglycaemia.

In a diet lowering the level of sugar you can eat such foods as: pickles, radishes, cabbage, celery, spinach, asparagus, all kinds of salads, sorrel, broccoli, onion, fresh mushrooms and squash. They can be added to meals as well as eaten in between.

There are also vegetables that are not recommended for people with unregulated blood sugar. These include freshly cooked potatoes, maize and legumes.

Cereal products in a diet that reduces blood sugar levels

A diet that reduces blood sugar should be rich in cereal products because they are a source of B vitamins. They also contain starch and quite a lot of fibre, which is very important for people with sugar problems. Therefore, it is worthwhile to include such products as oatmeal, bran, groats (buckwheat and barley), as well as wholemeal and wholemeal bread permanently in the diet.

Seasonings in a sugar-reducing diet

Some spices are particularly friendly to people on a diet that reduces blood sugar levels. These include cinnamon, fenugreek and cloves. The synipine, which you will find in cress, also has a beneficial effect on the body.
